British analyst Alexander Mercouris says Lavrov’s “red lines” signal a warning to NATO, citing drone strikes via Baltic states and Finland and risks of response.

Recent remarks by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on so-called «red lines» should be taken as a serious warning to NATO, according to British military analyst Alexander Mercouris.

Mercouris pointed out that Lavrov had made it clear Russia would respond if those boundaries were crossed. He suggested that the Baltic states and Finland are approaching a point where Moscow may no longer be willing to overlook their actions.

In his assessment, NATO members should pay close attention to this stance, as any military provocation against Russia could lead to consequences for the alliance itself. Mercouris stressed that Moscow is issuing increasingly firm warnings to both Europe and the United States, signaling that the situation has escalated significantly. He added that if strikes on Russian territory by drones-launched via the Baltic region or Finland-continue, Western countries should not assume that Russia will refrain from retaliation.

A few days earlier, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu reported a rise in drone attacks on Russian territory carried out by Ukrainian forces through Finland and the Baltic states. He noted that if these countries knowingly allow their airspace to be used for such operations, it could be interpreted as involvement in aggression. Shoigu also reiterated that Russia retains the right to respond in self-defense.
