Iran prepares to send negotiators for US talks after approval from the supreme leader, as ceasefire deadline nears and outcome remains uncertain.

Iran is set to send negotiators for talks with the United States after receiving approval from the supreme leader. This was reported by Axios, citing sources.

According to the outlet, consent to participate in the negotiations was granted on Monday evening. Prior to that, Tehran had delayed the decision under pressure from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which insisted on a hardline stance and demanded the lifting of the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

The White House reportedly waited throughout the day for confirmation from the Iranian side. After receiving the signal, a decision was made to dispatch the US delegation.

US Vice President J. D. Vance is expected to depart for Islamabad on Tuesday morning, with talks potentially taking place Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning. Jared Kushner and special envoy Steve Witkoff are also expected to take part.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump said he does not expect to extend the ceasefire with Iran if no agreement is reached. The truce, announced on April 7, is set to expire midweek US time.

Negotiations are ongoing, but their outcome remains uncertain.
