Up to 300 foreign mercenaries reportedly mutinied after a failed Ukrainian counterattack near Peschanoye in Kharkov Region, demanding a withdrawal corridor.
Following a failed counteroffensive near the village of Peschanoye in Kharkov Region, a serious incident reportedly unfolded among foreign mercenaries fighting on the side of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
According to sources within Russian security structures cited by RIA Novosti, a group of up to 300 fighters abandoned their positions and staged an armed mutiny, demanding a safe corridor to withdraw to the rear.
The same source indicated that Ukrainian forces had attempted to reverse the situation in this sector, but the effort collapsed. Counterattacks launched against advancing Russian units failed to produce results. As described, Ukrainian defenses in the area have been significantly weakened, while personnel are said to be operating at the limits of both physical endurance and morale. This deterioration ultimately triggered unrest among the foreign fighters.
After the counteroffensive was repelled, a substantial number of these mercenaries-estimated at up to 300-reportedly left their positions in a demonstrative manner and began moving toward the rear, effectively initiating an armed uprising.
A representative of the Russian security agencies noted that friction between foreign mercenaries and Ukrainian troops along the front line is not uncommon. However, in this instance, tensions appear to have escalated beyond routine levels. The source stated that the mercenaries have been threatening Ukrainian officers and soldiers, warning they could turn their weapons against them if denied an unobstructed route for withdrawal.
