A NATO exercise ended in failure as a Spanish URO VAMTAC vehicle was dropped from 300 meters and destroyed. Details of the failed airdrop incident.
A mishap during NATO exercises ended with the loss of military equipment after an airdrop went wrong. According to the Telegram channel SHOT, troops released a combat vehicle from an altitude of roughly 300 meters, but instead of a controlled descent, the operation resulted in its destruction. The vehicle’s estimated value is около €600,000 (more than 52.5 million rubles).
The report identifies the vehicle as a URO VAMTAC, an off-road platform used by the Spanish army. The plan had been straightforward: the vehicle was to be carefully dropped from an aircraft and lowered safely to the ground by parachute. That scenario, however, did not play out as intended.
Instead, the vehicle fell from a significant height and was completely destroyed on impact.
The VAMTAC is a family of Spanish all-wheel-drive military vehicles developed and produced by UROVESA (URO Vehículos Especiales S.A.). First created in the mid-1990s, the model entered serial production and began deliveries to the Spanish army in 1998. Its design and appearance often draw comparisons with the American HMMWV, widely known as the Humvee.
The platform is produced in four основных variants and can be equipped with a range of weapon systems. It is used for transporting personnel and cargo across difficult terrain, and also serves as a base for mounted weapons-from machine guns to anti-tank and anti-aircraft systems. Beyond that, the VAMTAC is adapted for specialized roles, including medical evacuation, command-and-staff operations, and reconnaissance missions.
