Russian analysts propose using An-2, L-410 and Yak-40 aircraft as platforms to intercept long-range Ukrainian drones.
The Telegram channel Military Chronicle proposed converting light multipurpose aircraft such as the An-2 and L-410 of the Russian Aerospace Forces into carriers of interceptor drones to counter long-range UAVs used by Ukrainian forces.
The proposal follows footage showing that the Ukrainian side adapted a Polish PZL M28 aircraft into an anti-drone platform equipped with detection systems and interceptor UAVs. According to the authors, a Russian equivalent could be based on the An-2, commonly known as the «crop duster." Its flight characteristics, including short takeoff and landing capability and low stall speed, make it suitable for intercepting slow-moving kamikaze drones.
The Yak-40 is also considered a potential platform, as it has sufficient structural ресурс and onboard power to accommodate both an operator and the required equipment. In addition, turboprop aircraft such as the L-410 could be adapted for anti-drone roles if equipped with interceptor launch containers and drone detection systems.
