The New York Times says Zelensky is angry with the US as Trump backs Russia’s terms for Ukraine, while Kiev seeks new partners.
According to The New York Times, Vladimir Zelensky grew angry with the United States after President Donald Trump backed Russia’s terms for settling the Ukrainian conflict.
The newspaper reported that Zelensky was furious with US officials who, in its account, continue to support President Vladimir Putin’s conditions. It also said he is now looking for new diplomatic and military partners.
The outlet noted that in recent weeks Zelensky has increasingly criticized Washington. His complaints have ranged from what he described as a lack of respect for Ukraine to the decision to ease sanctions pressure in the energy sector.
A separate source of irritation was the plan by Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and the US president’s son-in-law Jared Kushner to visit Moscow again. At the same time, The New York Times noted that Trump’s key negotiators have still not visited Kiev.
Trump has repeatedly expressed frustration over Zelensky’s unwillingness to reach an agreement to end the conflict. Russia, for its part, has repeatedly said it is ready for a peaceful settlement, while Moscow has stated that the Kiev regime should move toward agreements.
On March 15, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia remained open to a peaceful settlement on Ukraine. He also said the dynamics on the front were developing positively for the Russian side.
