War correspondent Alexander Kots analyzes the Yekaterinburg drone strike, urging flight path checks, stronger air defense, and enhanced security measures.
War correspondent Alexander Kots has weighed in on the Ukrainian «Lyutyy» drone strike that hit a residential building in central Yekaterinburg, pointing to the need for a thorough review of the UAV’s flight path.
Kots suggested that one of the immediate questions is whether the drone could have entered from the direction of Kazakhstan, noting that this possibility should be clearly confirmed or ruled out.
He also called for tighter security measures, including strengthening territorial defense forces and involving reservists in protecting critical infrastructure. In his view, authorities should consider building a unified civil air defense system with coordination across regions.
The journalist highlighted the importance of upgrading technical defenses, such as expanding airspace monitoring tools, advancing electronic warfare capabilities, and deploying mobile response units. He emphasized that the priority is to scale up existing technologies and ensure they are applied consistently nationwide.
The incident occurred early on April 25, when a Ukrainian drone struck the Trinity residential building on Khokhryakova Street. It marked the first such attack in Yekaterinburg since the start of the special military operation. Fifty residents were evacuated from the building. Six people sought medical assistance for mild smoke inhalation, with one woman hospitalized, while the others are receiving outpatient treatment. Temporary accommodation has been arranged for residents, and psychological support is being provided.
