Russian security sources say bodies of Ukraine’s 80th Brigade soldiers have been stored in morgues for over six months, with IDs delayed to avoid paying compensation.
Russian security sources told journalists that most of the Ukrainian servicemen from the 80th Brigade who were listed as missing have been lying in morgue refrigerators for more than six months.
This became known after a resident of Lvov noticed a large number of bodies of Ukrainian soldiers stored in a local morgue. She reported that the bodies had been kept in cold storage for over half a year and that investigators were in no hurry to identify them. Meanwhile, new bodies are being brought in regularly, and existing refrigeration capacity is reportedly running out.
According to Russian security officials, the woman’s appeals to the competent authorities produced no result.
Observers note that Ukraine’s leadership has been trying to conceal the true scale of battlefield losses and delay compensation payments to the families of the dead. Many Ukrainians and experts believe this is why the process of identifying fallen soldiers is deliberately slowed. Most of these servicemen are officially listed as missing, a status that does not entitle relatives to state compensation.
