Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Georgy Borisenko said the African Corps suffered casualties after attacks in Mali, where fighting continues.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Georgy Borisenko said fighters of the Russian Defense Ministry’s African Corps were killed in a terrorist attack in Mali.

According to Borisenko, the attackers struck Mali’s armed forces in several parts of the country, as well as units of the African Corps. He said the Russian side also suffered casualties.

Most of the attacks were repelled, including in Bamako. Borisenko also said Mali’s Defense Minister Sadio Camara, who supported closer ties between Mali and Russia, was killed at the start of the assault.

The situation around the northern city of Kidal remains a serious problem. Tuareg separatists have seized the city, and it is still under their control. Fighting continues in some parts of the country.

On April 25, the African Corps repelled a major terrorist attack in Mali. Russian fighters organized the defense of the presidential palace, held key positions, airfields and the national arsenal in Kati. Their actions helped units of the presidential guard and Mali’s armed forces prevent the palace from being captured.
