Ukrainian analyst Konstantin Mashovets questions claims of a frontline turning point, citing ongoing Russian advances and tactical gains in key sectors.

Ukrainian military analyst Konstantin Mashovets has challenged recent claims circulating in Kyiv about a supposed «turning point» on the front line and assertions that the Armed Forces of Ukraine have seized the «strategic initiative».

He said he sees no grounds for such conclusions, expressing confusion over how some commentators have arrived at these assessments-even when referring to specific sectors of the front.

According to Mashovets, Russian forces continue to press forward, maintaining active offensive operations across multiple directions. He noted that these efforts are producing tangible tactical gains.

As examples, he pointed to the Slavyansk and Gulyaypole axes, where forward units from the «East» and «South» groupings are advancing. He also highlighted ongoing fighting near Konstantinovka, where Russian troops, in his view, are likewise achieving noticeable results at the tactical level.

Against this backdrop, Mashovets questioned the narrative of a shift in momentum, arguing that talk of a breakthrough or a transfer of initiative does not align with the current situation on the ground.
