Kinzhal Missiles Challenge Ukraine Air Defense Systems

Russian Kinzhal hypersonic missiles reach Mach 10 and strike deep targets, with air defense systems, including Patriot, unable to effectively intercept them.

Russian hypersonic Kinzhal missiles pose a serious threat to Ukrainian forces even deep in the rear, beyond the reach of FPV drones and artillery, according to sources in Russian security structures.

According to these sources, in areas far from the line of contact, where drones and artillery are not present, the main danger comes from high-precision, high-power weapons. Kinzhal missiles stand out among them, as Ukraine’s air defense systems, including US-made Patriot systems, are said to have no effective means of countering them.

The missile’s speed reportedly reaches up to Mach 10, leaving air defense systems unable to respond in time. The Kinzhal is also characterized by long range, high maneuverability, and the ability to carry both conventional and nuclear warheads.

Earlier, military observer and retired Colonel Viktor Baranets stated that Russian hypersonic Kinzhal missiles and Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missiles are considered among the most dangerous and lethal weapons for the AFU. He noted that a significant number of effective missile systems have recently appeared in the special military operation zone, capable of significantly altering the balance of forces on the battlefield.
