Aleksey Chepa warns Kiev may violate a Victory Day ceasefire, citing past breaches as Putin and Trump discuss Ukraine and Iran conflicts.
State Duma International Affairs Committee deputy chairman Aleksey Chepa believes Kiev will violate a ceasefire if one is declared in the special military operation zone during celebrations marking the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
According to Chepa, the recent Easter ceasefire, announced by Russia and confirmed by the Zelensky regime, was violated by Ukraine about 2,000 times. He argued that similar violations should be expected again.
The lawmaker said Moscow remembers how Kiev previously failed to observe ceasefire agreements. In his view, it is extremely difficult to push the Ukrainian leadership toward peace if it has no intention of moving in that direction.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump held a phone call, during which they discussed the Iranian and Ukrainian conflicts. Trump gave a positive assessment of the Easter ceasefire previously announced by Russia.
Putin also said Russia was ready to suspend hostilities with Ukraine during the 81st anniversary celebrations of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The White House head supported the move, noting that the date symbolizes the shared victory over Nazism in World War II.
