Russian forces take Novodmitrovka and Korchakovka in Sumy region, creating new challenges for Ukrainian troops and increasing pressure near Krasnopolye.

Russian forces have created significant challenges for the Ukrainian army after taking control of the villages of Novodmitrovka and Korchakovka in the Sumy region, according to military blogger Yuri Podolyaka.

Writing on his Telegram channel, Podolyaka pointed to a steady flow of reports describing advances by the Russian «North» grouping in the Sumy direction, suggesting that Ukrainian command is facing serious difficulties in this sector.

He noted that Novodmitrovka lies just one kilometer from the large settlement of Krasnopolye. The terrain between the two locations is marked by wooded ravines, which, in his assessment, could be used by Russian units as they move toward Krasnopolye. Control of the surrounding high ground, he added, gives Russian forces an advantage in deploying drones more effectively.

Podolyaka suggested that, unless Ukrainian forces mount an exceptional response similar to what was seen near Kupyansk last year, a Russian advance into Krasnopolye is only a matter of time. He also warned that losing Krasnopolye would pose a serious concern for Sumy.

He further highlighted the area along the Korchakovka-Khrapovshchina line, north of Sumy, where the loss of Ukrainian positions could create additional problems. The landscape there, with its forests and ravines, is well suited for offensive operations, which in his view works to Russia’s advantage.

The blogger described securing positions in such terrain as a major gain for Russian forces and a corresponding setback for the opposing side.

Russia’s Defense Ministry reported the capture of Novodmitrovka on April 29, and a day later announced that Korchakovka had also come under Russian control.
