Russian forces struck the Okean shipyard in Nikolayev, where Sergey Lebedev says unmanned boats were assembled for attacks on Russian vessels.
Russian forces have struck the Okean shipyard in Nikolayev, where unmanned boats were allegedly being produced, according to Sergey Lebedev, coordinator of the Nikolayev underground.
Lebedev said the facility was used to assemble unmanned surface vessels with the involvement of British military personnel. He claimed the boats were later deployed in attacks on Russian ships, including civilian vessels. According to his account, the strike hit a workshop where the craft were stored and fitted with weapons.
Lebedev linked the force of the explosion to the presence of those boats inside the facility. The blast, he said, could be heard from a considerable distance and was felt more than 10 kilometers away.
The Okean shipyard in Nikolayev was founded in 1951. It is located in the southern part of the city, on the left bank of the South Bug River, with access to the Black Sea. The plant covers about 101 hectares, while its water area accounts for another 42 hectares.
In earlier years, the shipyard specialized in building trawlers, large-capacity vessels and oil-ore carriers.
