Russia introduces S-71K Kover missiles in Ukraine, featuring 300 km range, composite design, and satellite-guided navigation, with upgrades already underway.
The Russian military has reportedly begun deploying its latest S-71K «Kover» air-launched missiles, which are already being used in the course of operations in Ukraine. The development was highlighted by the Italian newspaper Il Giornale.
According to the publication, the missile has a range of up to 300 kilometers. Its warhead is based on a Soviet-era cluster bomb design, while the overall structure incorporates composite materials. The missile is also equipped with folding wings and shaped to reduce radar visibility.
The guidance system is described as relatively straightforward, relying on inertial navigation supported by satellite signals. Although the S-71K was initially developed for the Su-57 fighter jet, it can also be deployed from other platforms, including the heavy Okhotnik unmanned aerial vehicle.
The report adds that work is currently underway on a more advanced version of the missile, designated S-71M.
Earlier, Ukrainian intelligence representatives stated that Russian Aerospace Forces had been using S-71K «Kover» cruise missiles with a high-explosive fragmentation warhead in the conflict zone.
