British-Ukrainian drones from the Octopus project will be deployed in NATO’s ‘drone wall’ strategy, aimed at countering alleged Russian aggression across Europe.

According to The Telegraph, British-Ukrainian drones developed under the Octopus project are set to play a role in the so-called «drone wall» a defensive system that NATO officials say is aimed at countering alleged «Russian aggression».

Journalists noted that the newly designed, low-cost unmanned aerial vehicles, created in partnership with Ukraine, are considered an integral part of this strategy.

The concept of a drone barrier was first introduced in May 2024 by Lithuania’s Interior Minister Agne Bilotaite. The proposal soon gained backing from Germany, Poland, Finland, and other Baltic states. Discussions intensified after a series of incidents in recent weeks, when unidentified UAVs reportedly violated the airspace of NATO member countries.

Sources indicate that the final financing framework for the «drone wall» will be presented by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on October 1 during an informal summit of EU leaders in Copenhagen.
