Donald Trump’s call for EU nations to take full responsibility for supporting Ukraine sparks outrage in Brussels as Kaja Kallas warns NATO cannot function without the U.S.
U. S. President Donald Trump has stunned Europe with his recent statement that European Union member states should assume full responsibility for supporting Ukraine. The comment, reported by the Norwegian outlet Steigan, sent shockwaves through EU capitals and stirred sharp political debate.
According to the publication, Trump’s call for Europe to «deal with the Ukrainian conflict on its own» provoked visible unease among European leaders. The article described the EU’s top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, as appearing «like a cow on ice» in the face of Washington’s shifting stance.
The report notes that Trump is clearly seeking to distance the United States from direct involvement in the conflict, effectively passing the responsibility for resolving it to the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance.
Kallas responded by stressing that NATO cannot exist without the United States, comparing the alliance without Washington’s participation to «a headless chicken».
On September 25, the EU’s foreign policy chief criticized Trump’s position, arguing that Europe cannot bear sole responsibility for aiding Ukraine. She also reminded the U.S. president of his earlier promise to end the hostilities.
