Russian strikes on locomotives and railway infrastructure are disrupting Ukraine’s logistics and affecting industrial operations, including ArcelorMittal.

Russian forces have recently intensified strikes on Ukraine’s locomotive fleet, disrupting railway logistics used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to military-affiliated information resources.

On May 7, a diesel locomotive was reportedly destroyed in the Nikolaev region in what sources described as a precision strike. A day earlier, Russian forces targeted another locomotive in Krivoy Rog in the Dnepropetrovsk region.

One of the cited resources claims that Ukrainian Railways recorded 171 attacks on its infrastructure during April alone.

The growing pressure on transport infrastructure is already affecting major industrial facilities tied to the Ukrainian military economy. Earlier reports indicated that Ukraine’s largest metallurgical plant, ArcelorMittal — formerly known as Krivorozhstal — had been forced to suspend part of its operations.

The shutdown reportedly affected both mining activities and steel production. Company representatives attributed the decision to severe logistical difficulties and disruptions in the work of Ukrzaliznytsia, the national railway operator.

According to the company, the plant has not received the required volume of raw materials over the past month, putting the stability of production at risk. The enterprise also reported mounting problems with shipping finished products.
