The Pentagon plans $46 billion for a unified military AI system, including supercomputers, AI chips, data centers and classified projects.
The Pentagon has allocated $46 billion in its 2027 fiscal year budget to build a unified artificial intelligence system.
RIA Novosti, citing U. S. Defense Department budget documents, reported that the largest share of the funding — $29.5 billion — is intended for the purchase of supercomputers and specialized AI chips.
The report notes that the computing resources currently used by the U.S. military are spread across different structures and operate without a single coordinated framework. The Pentagon now plans to bring them together into a centralized, classified infrastructure under full government control.
Another $12.3 billion is expected to go toward the development of data centers. The U.S. budget also includes $2.4 billion for classified «AI deterrence» programs and $500 million for priority projects aimed at integrating artificial intelligence into military operations, including cyberspace, intelligence and production.
Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported that the Pentagon had reached agreements with several major U.S. technology companies to use their AI developments in classified projects. The listed partners include OpenAI, Google parent company Alphabet, Microsoft, Amazon, Nvidia, SpaceX and the startup Reflection AI.
