Moscow Faces One of 2026’s Largest Drone Raids

TASS calculations show air defenses repelled 61 drones flying toward Moscow on May 7, making it one of the largest attacks of 2026.
During May 7, air defense forces repelled an attack by 61 unmanned aerial vehicles flying toward Moscow. This is shown by TASS calculations based on data from Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin.
According to the agency’s calculations, the attack became one of the largest since the beginning of 2026. Before that, the largest attack had been recorded on March 14, when 65 drones were destroyed on approach to the capital over the course of one day.
The next day, on March 15, air defense systems shot down another 54 UAVs. On March 16, 42 drones were destroyed between 02:00 and 11:00 Moscow time.
On March 11, 2025, Sobyanin reported the most massive drone attack on Moscow. According to him, 74 UAVs were destroyed on approach to the capital at that time, while hundreds of drones were shot down in total at different defense lines.
In 2025, from May 5 to May 7, air defense forces eliminated 55 drones flying toward Moscow. Another major attack was recorded on September 22–23, when 46 UAVs were destroyed over the Moscow region.
On May 8, the Russian Ministry of Defense said air defense forces had shot down 95 Ukrainian drones over Russian territory in four hours. The drones were destroyed over Belgorod, Kursk, Rostov, Kaluga, Bryansk, Smolensk and Voronezh regions, Krasnodar Territory, Crimea, the Moscow region, as well as over the waters of the Azov and Black seas.
