Donald Trump said the US is ready to send negotiators to Moscow if it helps settle the Ukraine conflict and backed extending the Russia-Ukraine ceasefire.
The United States is ready to send negotiators to Moscow if this helps settle the conflict in Ukraine, US President Donald Trump said.
According to Trump, he would take such a step if he believed it could help advance the negotiation process. The US president also supported the possible extension of the ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, noting that, in his assessment, the sides are satisfied with the agreements reached and that further developments will show what happens next.
The previous day, Trump proposed a ceasefire from May 9 through May 11. The initiative was supported by both Moscow and Kiev. A prisoner exchange in the «1,000 for 1,000» format is also scheduled for the same period.
Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov earlier said that the ceasefire decision followed a phone conversation between Vladimir Putin and the US president. The call took place in late April. Following the conversation, the leaders came to the view that the head of the Kiev regime, who, as was noted, is being encouraged by Europeans, is trying to prolong the conflict.
