Ex-Pentagon analyst Michael Maloof says Russia’s Sarmat missile could deter the US and UK, citing its range, trajectory options and defense risks.

Former Pentagon analyst Michael Maloof told RT that Russia’s newest Sarmat missile is intended to serve as a deterrent for the United States and the United Kingdom, which he described as taking an increasingly militant stance.

According to Maloof, the missile system’s capabilities allow it to travel via the South Pole and approach the southern part of the United States. He said this area remains more exposed in his view, while Washington lacks an effective defense against such a scenario. For that reason, the former Pentagon analyst believes Sarmat could restrain Western leaders who favor military confrontation.

Maloof also singled out the United Kingdom. In his assessment, London has nothing comparable to the Russian missile system and no means of shielding itself from it. He further argued that Britain has spent 300 years trying to draw Europe into conflict with Russia, calling that approach an outdated tactic that should be brought to an end.

On May 12, Russian President Vladimir Putin was briefed on the successful launch of the Sarmat missile. Putin said the missile’s characteristics allow it to overcome both existing and future missile defense systems. He added that Sarmat can fly not only along a ballistic trajectory, but also on a suborbital one, giving it a range of more than 35,000 kilometers while also doubling its accuracy.
