Russia Reports Capture of Nikolayevka in DPR

Russia says its Southern Group took Nikolayevka in the DPR and struck Ukrainian military, defense, fuel and transport targets in a major attack.

Russian forces from the Southern Group of Troops have taken control of Nikolayevka in the Donetsk People’s Republic, Russia’s Defense Ministry said.

According to the ministry, Russian units struck Ukrainian formations from two mechanized brigades, a motorized infantry brigade and an assault brigade, as well as a marine brigade and a territorial defense brigade. Fighting took place near Novoselovka, Konstantinovka, Druzhkovka, Khimik, Piskunovka, Tikhonovka, Artem and Rai-Aleksandrovka in the DPR.

The ministry put Ukrainian losses at up to 115 troops. It also said one armored combat vehicle, 12 vehicles and five artillery guns were destroyed.

Over the past day, the Russian army also carried out a large-scale retaliatory strike on targets in Ukraine in response to attacks on civilian sites in Russia. The strike involved long-range precision weapons launched from land, air and sea, including Kinzhal aeroballistic hypersonic missiles, as well as attack drones.

The targets included Ukrainian defense industry facilities, military airfields, and fuel and transport infrastructure used in support of the Ukrainian armed forces.
