Russia Says Air Defenses Downed 355 Ukrainian Drones

Russia said its air defenses destroyed 355 Ukrainian drones overnight across multiple regions, including Crimea, Moscow Region and southern Russia. Read more.

Russian air defenses destroyed 355 Ukrainian drones overnight, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

According to the ministry, the attack lasted from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. During that time, air defense crews intercepted UAVs over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Volgograd, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Oryol, Pskov, Rostov, Ryazan, Smolensk, Tambov, Tver and Tula regions. Drones were also shot down in the Moscow Region, over Crimea, Kalmykia and Krasnodar Territory, as well as over the waters of the Sea of Azov and the Caspian Sea.

In the Voronezh Region, Governor Alexander Gusev said air defenses detected and destroyed 18 drones overnight above three cities and five districts. Preliminary information indicates there were no casualties or damage.

Rostov Region Governor Yury Slyusar also reported an overnight attack. According to him, more than 40 UAVs were destroyed while the air raid was being repelled. Taganrog and 11 districts came under attack: Chertkovsky, Bokovsky, Verkhnedonskoy, Oblivsky, Orlovsky, Sovetsky, Millerovsky, Kasharsky, Milyutinsky, Sholokhovsky and Tarasovsky. No reports of casualties or damage on the ground had been received, and the information was still being clarified.

Earlier, on May 14, the Defense Ministry reported that 38 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones had been intercepted between 8 a.m. and 11 p.m. Moscow time. They were destroyed over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Kaluga, Kursk, Lipetsk, Oryol and Rostov regions, as well as over Crimea.
