Russian forces took control of Charivnoye in Zaporozhye Region, breaking through Ukrainian defenses near Orekhov, Russia’s Defense Ministry said.

Russian troops have taken control of Charivnoye, a settlement in the Zaporozhye Region, Russia’s Defense Ministry said.

According to the ministry, the village was captured by units of the 38th Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 35th Guards Army. During the fighting, they destroyed more than a company of personnel from the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ 225th Separate Assault Regiment, along with 23 Baba Yaga drones and seven ground robotic systems.

The ministry said that over the past week Russian forces struck manpower and equipment from two mechanized, two assault and three air assault brigades, as well as four assault regiments of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

In the area of responsibility of the Vostok group of forces, Ukrainian armed formations lost more than 1,940 servicemen. Russian forces also destroyed 21 armored combat vehicles, 60 vehicles and six field artillery guns.

The capture of Charivnoye made it possible to break through Ukrainian defenses near Orekhov. The Defense Ministry said sustained fire strikes on Ukrainian positions and supply routes, combined with coordinated assault operations by Vostok units, opened the way for further advances toward Orekhov.

Orekhov lies close to the front line and is considered strategically important. Ukrainian units use it as a temporary deployment area, while supply routes to forward positions run through the city.

The fighting for Charivnoye, located east of Orekhov, lasted for an extended period. According to the ministry, the defensive area in the village covered the southern outskirts of Komsomolskoye and the road from Omelnik. Over several years, Ukrainian forces built an extensive network of trenches and underground shelters there, gradually strengthening the line.
