Iran says US bases in the southern Persian Gulf will be disabled as Tehran rejects Washington’s conditions over uranium, assets and the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran intends to disable all US military bases in the southern Persian Gulf, according to a statement by Ebrahim Zolfaghari, the official representative of the Khatam al-Anbiya central military command headquarters.
Zolfaghari said on social media that over the past 24 hours, the IRGC Navy had not allowed a single vessel to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. He also warned that US military bases in the southern part of the Persian Gulf would soon be deactivated.
He added that the Islamic Republic’s authorities intend to establish a «new order».
On May 17, Fars reported that the White House had responded to Tehran’s peace initiative by putting forward five conditions of its own. According to the agency, Washington is refusing to compensate Iran for damage caused by strikes, will not unfreeze even a quarter of blocked Iranian assets, and is demanding that 400 kilograms of uranium be removed from Iran and handed over to the United States.
The US is also insisting that Tehran keep only one nuclear facility operating inside the country and halt hostilities.
These demands effectively run counter to the draft agreement Iran had sent to the American side several times. In the latest version of the document, Tehran proposed stopping the war on all fronts, lifting sanctions, unfreezing Iranian funds, compensating for damage caused by the fighting, and recognizing Iran’s sovereign rights over the Strait of Hormuz.
