Military expert Anatoly Matviychuk says shotguns, anti-drone systems, electronic warfare and protective nets can help defend Russian sites from UAVs.

Military analyst and reserve special forces colonel Anatoly Matviychuk has said that even a standard shotgun can be used against drones at short range.

According to him, this method may be effective against Ukrainian-launched UAVs when they approach at close distances. Matviychuk said mobile air-observation posts are operating in border areas, where servicemen use both specialized anti-drone systems and shotguns loaded with pellets. The spread of shot, he explained, helps create a shrapnel-like pattern capable of hitting aerial targets.

In comments to Lenta.ru, the expert also said that double-barrel and four-barrel Kalashnikov machine guns are used for the same purpose, including tank-mounted versions operated by electric triggers. Radio-technical reconnaissance systems are also involved. Electronic warfare equipment, he added, disrupts drone control networks, disables their power units and interferes with navigation systems.

Matviychuk also pointed out that many Russian enterprises are strengthening the protection of their facilities with special netting. Such structures are being installed at sites including oil refineries and filling stations.

The colonel said these nets prevent drones from reaching their intended targets. In particular, UAVs may detonate above the protective barrier instead of striking the facility directly.
