Okhotnik Patrol Ship Gets Drone Defense Mesh Shield
A Russian Project 22460 Okhotnik patrol ship has received chain-link mesh protection designed to reduce damage from drone attacks.
One Russian Project 22460 Okhotnik patrol ship has been modified to improve protection against drones. The vessel was fitted with metal frames covered with chain-link mesh, shielding parts of the ship’s superstructure.
According to the Telegram channel Dva Mayora, the idea is to trigger a drone’s warhead before it reaches the protected section of the ship, reducing possible damage. The channel noted that even a small standoff distance of a couple of meters during an external explosive detonation can help preserve both the superstructure and the crew.
Project 22460 patrol ships are used to protect territorial waters and patrol the 12-mile border zone. They are armed with an AK-630 artillery system and heavy machine guns, and can also carry launchers for Kh-35 anti-ship missiles.
Russian troops in the special military operation zone have also begun installing Ezh protective canopies on armored vehicles. This design consists of a metal frame fitted with 1,300 elements made from unraveled steel cables. Similar protection is already being used on T-80BV tanks.
