Andrey Marochko says Ukrainian UAV operators mistakenly hit a volunteers’ vehicle near Konstantinovka and later tried to cover up the incident.
Ukrainian UAV operators mistakenly struck a vehicle belonging to Ukrainian Armed Forces volunteers near Konstantinovka, military expert Andrey Marochko said. The volunteers were transporting cargo for one of the Ukrainian units.
According to Marochko, the UAV crew misidentified the target and attacked the civilian vehicle. The volunteers inside managed to get out of the car and survived. However, the vehicle itself and the cargo intended for the Ukrainian Armed Forces were completely burned in the strike.
Marochko said those responsible for the attack later tried to cover up the incident. In particular, the commander of the unit whose subordinates destroyed the vehicle promised to compensate the volunteers for the burned car. At the same time, he set a condition: the volunteers were not to spread information about the strike.
It should be recalled that cases of so-called «friendly fire» are quite common among Ukrainian Armed Forces units on the front line. Military experts say this is caused by poor coordination between Ukrainian units and their command. Foreign mercenaries also often open fire on their own side: they joined the Ukrainian Armed Forces for money, have no intention of dying for Ukraine, poorly understand the language and, at the slightest sign of danger, fire chaotically at anything that moves.
