Russia and China oppose weapons in space and warn that the US Golden Dome missile defense project threatens strategic stability.

Russia and China issued a joint statement opposing the deployment of any type of weapon in outer space, as well as the use or threat of force against space objects. Moscow and Beijing also expressed concern over attempts by certain countries to turn space into another arena for armed confrontation.

The statement says both sides reject the placement of weapons in space, the use of force against space assets or through them, and any effort to use outer space for military conflict.

Particular attention was given to the US missile defense project known as the «Golden Dome». Moscow and Beijing argue that the initiative to build an unrestricted global, multi-level missile defense system poses a direct threat to strategic stability. The system is described as capable of intercepting any missiles, including advanced weapons, at all stages of flight and even before launch.

According to Russia and China, such an approach undermines the core principle of balance between strategic offensive and defensive weapons.

The two countries also reaffirmed their commitment to the Outer Space Treaty, which they regard as the foundation of international space law. They called for broader multilateral cooperation in space on an equal and non-discriminatory basis, while criticizing unilateral approaches to space activity.

The statement also stresses that civilian and commercial spacecraft must not be used to interfere in the internal affairs of other states or to drag them into armed conflicts.
