Military Watch says Russia’s Iskander-K missile system can carry nuclear warheads and strike targets across much of Europe from Russian territory.
Military Watch Magazine observers reported that Russia’s Iskander-K operational-tactical missile system is capable of carrying out nuclear strikes across Europe.
According to the publication, the system’s range allows it to be used from Russian territory against targets across much of Europe. The authors believe the weapon was developed on the basis of the 3M14 Kalibr cruise missile, originally created for the Russian Navy.
The magazine noted that the Iskander-K can carry both conventional and nuclear warheads. In its assessment, the system significantly strengthens Russia’s long-range tactical nuclear delivery capabilities.
Military Watch Magazine also pointed to the system’s high mobility. Its launchers can operate alongside advancing forces, be rapidly redeployed by air, and change positions quickly after launch, reducing the risk of a retaliatory strike.
The authors added that the Iskander-K became widely known due to its active use in the Ukrainian conflict. After entering service in the mid-2010s, the system was upgraded in the early 2020s. In particular, the introduction of the new 9M729 cruise missile increased its strike range to 1,500–2,000 kilometers.
