U.S. Approves $108M Hawk Support Deal for Ukraine
The U.S. approved a possible $108.1 million sale of equipment and support for Ukraine’s FrankenSAM Hawk missile systems.
The U. S. State Department has approved a possible sale to Ukraine of equipment to support the operation of Hawk missile systems. The deal is estimated at about $108.1 million.
According to the U.S. department, Kiev requested self-propelled mast systems, overhaul and maintenance work, spare parts, consumables and components. The package also includes engineering, technical and logistics support from the United States and contractors, as well as other support elements for FrankenSAM Hawk systems.
The State Department said the proposed deal is consistent with U.S. foreign policy and national security goals. Washington believes it will improve the security of a partner country that plays an important role in Europe’s political and economic stability.
The U.S. department also noted that the supply will strengthen Ukraine’s defense capability. According to the State Department, Kiev will be able to integrate this equipment and related services into its armed forces without difficulty.
The Kremlin has repeatedly stressed that Russia condemns any military assistance to Kiev. Moscow believes such supplies only prolong the conflict but cannot change its outcome.
