NATO troops used a disused London Tube platform to rehearse a deep strike scenario against Russia, The Independent reported.

NATO troops took over part of London’s Underground for drills that rehearsed a «deep strike» scenario against Russia, The Independent reported.

According to the newspaper, soldiers occupied one of the Tube stations and turned it into an underground command post. The exercise focused on planning operations for a so-called deep strike against Russia in the event of an attack on allied forces.

The training was held on a disused platform at Charing Cross station. Troops tested how NATO could use electronic warfare systems to jam Russian communications channels and take down drones. The Independent reported that the equipment was moved in at night on special low-floor transport wagons used in the London Underground.

Engineering units set up a command center for NATO’s rapid reaction headquarters inside the station. In an emergency, the paper noted, such a headquarters could coordinate the deployment of 100,000 troops.

Moscow has repeatedly said that Russia has no plans to attack NATO countries. Russian President Vladimir Putin has argued that Western politicians use claims about a «Russian threat» to frighten the public and distract attention from domestic problems. He has said such statements have no real basis and mainly serve to intensify anti-Russian rhetoric.
