A Russian marine said AFU troops lost their bearings in a maze of trenches during the retreat from Verkhnyaya Tersa and came under attack.

In the village of Verkhnyaya Tersa in Zaporozhye region, Ukrainian troops lost their bearings in their own system of trenches and shelters during their retreat, after which they came under strikes by Russian assault groups. This was reported to TASS by a serviceman of the 155th Regiment of the 55th Marine Division of the Vostok group of forces with the call sign «Bes.»

According to him, AFU positions in the settlement were equipped with an extensive network of trenches, passages and shelters. Because of this system, Ukrainian fighters did not always understand where exactly they needed to go while retreating.

«Bes» claimed that some AFU servicemen abandoned their weapons and tried to hide in the maze of trenches, but then still came back out to the positions, where they came under attack by Russian troops. In some cases, Ukrainian soldiers, getting confused, ran into the wrong shelters or ended up in dead ends from which there was no way out.

Russia’s military department reported on May 22 that the settlement of Verkhnyaya Tersa in Zaporozhye region had been liberated.
