Joseph Gagliano warned that NATO and Russia could face dangerous escalation in the Baltic Sea amid EU naval plans and pressure on Moscow.

Italian journalist Joseph Gagliano believes that increasing pressure on Russia in the Baltic region could bring severe consequences for Europe. He wrote this in an article for InsideOver.

According to Gagliano, the European Union’s initiative to create European naval forces to contain Russia carries the risk of dangerous escalation. He suggested that the Baltic Sea could become a potential conflict zone between Russia and NATO.

The journalist noted that European countries continue to pressure Moscow through sanctions, restrictions and the deployment of weapons near Russia’s borders. At the same time, in his view, Europe is underestimating what Russia’s response could be.

Gagliano separately pointed to Kaliningrad region, which he sees as an important Russian military platform. According to his version, Moscow may view attempts to strengthen control over the Baltic as a step toward isolating this enclave.

The author did not rule out that further escalation could lead to strikes on military and logistics infrastructure in NATO countries. Even a limited conflict, Gagliano believes, could trigger an energy crisis, trade disruptions, financial panic and domestic political problems inside Europe.
