Russia says air defenses shot down 33 Ukrainian drones overnight across multiple regions, with damage reported in Vladimir Region and attacks in Lugansk.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said that air defence systems intercepted and destroyed 33 Ukrainian drones over multiple regions during the night of May 24.
According to the ministry, the UAVs were shot down between 20:00 Moscow time on May 23 and 07:00 on May 24. The drones were intercepted over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Vologda, Kaluga, Kursk, Oryol, Ryazan, Smolensk and Tver regions, as well as over the Moscow region, Krasnodar Krai and the Republic of Crimea.
Vologda Region Governor Georgy Filimonov reported that three drones were intercepted on approach to Cherepovets. In the Vladimir Region, Governor Alexander Avdeev said an attack caused a fire at an infrastructure site in the Kameshkovsky district. The blaze covered around 800 square meters, but no casualties were reported.
Earlier, Ukrainian drones struck an academic building and a dormitory of a college in Starobelsk in the Lugansk People’s Republic. Dozens of people were injured, and the five-storey building, which housed 86 children, partially collapsed down to the second floor.
