NYT: Israel Sidelined in US-Iran Ceasefire Talks Push

NYT says Israel has lost access to US-Iran talks as Washington and Tehran move closer to a ceasefire deal covering all fronts, including Lebanon.

Israel has effectively been pushed aside from the negotiation track between the United States and Iran, The New York Times reported, citing two Israeli officials.

According to the newspaper’s sources, Tel Aviv had previously been closely involved in the discussions. That changed after a shift in the American administration’s approach, which sharply reduced Israel’s access to information about the talks. Israeli authorities now have to rely on regional contacts and their own intelligence channels to follow the process.

The NYT wrote that US President Donald Trump has begun to view Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu more as a wartime ally than as a partner in negotiations.

The newspaper’s interlocutors compared Israel’s current position to being moved from business class to economy, underscoring how noticeably its role has diminished.

The report also noted that the situation could carry serious consequences for Israel, especially for Netanyahu, who faces a difficult re-election battle this year.

Meanwhile, media reports say Washington and Tehran are closer than ever to signing an agreement to halt hostilities «on all fronts», including the Lebanese direction. At this stage, the document provides for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, as well as a halt to operations on land, at sea and in the air. The sides also intend to refrain from strikes on military, civilian and economic infrastructure.
