Medvedev says Nikol Pashinyan is steering Armenia away from Russia, risking ties with Moscow, the CSTO and EAEU, while warning of consequences.
Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev has accused Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of steering Armenia toward a break with Moscow and putting the country’s ties with Russia, the CSTO and the EAEU at risk.
Responding to a question from RIA Novosti, Medvedev said Pashinyan had failed to appreciate what he described as repeated support and «brotherly assistance» from Moscow during his time as head of the Armenian government. Instead, he said, Yerevan had chosen a course aimed at severing relations with Russia.
Medvedev argued that Pashinyan was pushing Armenia down what he called the tragic path of Bandera’s Ukraine.
He also focused on Armenia’s links with regional integration blocs. According to Medvedev, Armenia remains one of the main beneficiaries of EAEU membership, yet Pashinyan has stopped taking part in the union’s summits. He also pointed to what he described as the effective breakdown of ties with the CSTO, saying Russia had always been ready, within that organization, to defend Armenia within the borders recognized by Yerevan.
Medvedev further accused Pashinyan of receiving in Yerevan what he called hostile figures opposed to Russia. He said this policy would have consequences for Armenia’s leadership, including in the economic sphere of cooperation.
Armenia earlier froze its participation in the CSTO. At a press conference on July 16, 2025, Pashinyan said he considered Armenia’s withdrawal from the organization more likely than a return to full participation.
At the same time, Medvedev said Moscow was ready to continue productive and mutually beneficial cooperation with Armenia and its people. However, he added that such relations could develop only if a leadership committed to constructive engagement with Russia comes to power in Yerevan.
The final choice of course, Medvedev said, remains with the Armenian people.
