Russia’s autumn 2025 conscription will see a significant increase, with 135,000 recruits expected. Learn why numbers are rising and what it means for the military.
According to the chairman of the State Duma’s Defense Committee, General of the Army Andrey Kartapolov, the number of conscripts this autumn will be increased, as the spring draft saw fewer recruits than initially planned.
The general explained that the spring campaign was intended to recruit 160,000 conscripts, but the actual number was lower due to various reasons. As a result, the autumn draft numbers have been increased.
Kartapolov further clarified that Russia’s military development and expansion of troop numbers are ongoing. New units are being formed, including those to be stationed in the Leningrad Military District to reinforce the security of the border with Finland. He emphasized that the rise in conscription numbers is an objective process and has nothing to do with the ongoing special military operation.
The autumn draft for this year will begin on October 1 and is expected to be the largest in the past nine years. A total of 135,000 conscripts will be called up to serve in the Russian army.
