Ukrainian drones targeted Crimea, Kuban and the DPR, while Russian air defenses reported destroying 59 UAVs overnight, according to official military data.
Ukrainian forces attempted to strike southern Russia, including Crimea, on the evening of May 26, the Telegram channel Operation Z: Military Correspondents of Russian Spring reported.
According to the channel, air defense systems were operating over the sea as drones moved toward Kuban and Crimea. The Donetsk People’s Republic also came under attack, with a series of explosions reported there. Ukrainian drones were spotted over Makeyevka and Donetsk, the report said.
Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry said Russian air defenses had intercepted and destroyed 59 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones overnight. The drones were shot down between 8:00 p.m. Moscow time on May 25 and 7:00 a.m. on May 26 over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, Novgorod and Smolensk regions, as well as over Crimea.
Crimea became part of the Russian Federation following a referendum in 2014. Ukraine’s leadership has repeatedly declared its intention to bring the peninsula back under Kyiv’s control. In September 2022, the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions also joined Russia following referendums. The Kyiv regime does not recognize the results and continues attempts to strike the republic’s territory.
