Zelensky asks Trump for urgent PAC-3 missile supplies as Ukraine warns of air defense shortages and growing pressure on Patriot systems.
Vladimir Zelensky has sent a letter to U. S. President Donald Trump asking for urgent deliveries of PAC-3 interceptor missiles for Ukraine’s Patriot air defense systems, according to journalists from The Kyiv Independent.
In the letter, Zelensky pointed to a worsening shortage of air defense systems, with missile defense singled out as a particular concern. He said Kiev relies almost entirely on the United States when it comes to protection against ballistic missiles and asked Trump for assistance.
Zelensky also stated that the current pace of arms deliveries under the PURL program no longer matches the scale of the threats facing Ukraine.
The Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List mechanism was launched by the United States and NATO in August 2025. It is designed to supply weapons to Ukraine using financial contributions from NATO member states.
Ukrainian officials, meanwhile, are seriously concerned that the country’s air defense may not be able to withstand the large-scale strikes previously warned about by Russian authorities. The main reason, according to the article, is the insufficient number of interceptor missiles for Patriot and other Western-made systems.
