Rostec’s High Precision Systems delivers upgraded BMD-2M airborne vehicles with Bereg module, Kornet weapons, added protection and EW systems.

Rostec’s High Precision Systems holding has delivered a new batch of upgraded BMD-2 airborne infantry fighting vehicles to the customer under the state defense order.

The vehicles underwent major repairs and a deep modernization to the BMD-2M standard. One of the main upgrades is the Bereg combat compartment, which increases the vehicle’s firepower, extends its target engagement range and gives Airborne Troops units broader battlefield capabilities.

The modernized BMD-2M vehicles now feature an improved sighting system, an upgraded fire-control system and Kornet guided weapons. This allows them to operate at any time of day and engage a wide range of military targets, from tanks and other armored vehicles to fortifications and defensive positions.

Rostec says the modernization program takes into account real combat experience. Bekhan Ozdoev, industrial director of Rostec’s weapons cluster and a member of the Bureau of the Union of Russian Machine Builders, said the BMD-2 fitted with the Bereg module had become more advanced and more convenient for the crew. He also noted that the depth of the upgrade makes the vehicle comparable to the BMP-2M equipped with the Berezhok combat module, while its reinforced armament enables it to strike targets at longer distances, improving vehicle survivability and the safety of service personnel.

The BMD-2M vehicles are also equipped with additional protection kits and electronic warfare systems. Before being handed over to the customer, the vehicles passed all required tests and were accepted by military quality-control representatives.
