Russian authorities say the FSB detained a suspect in Novorossiysk accused of preparing a railway bombing during a passenger train’s movement.

A Russian citizen has been detained in Novorossiysk on suspicion of preparing to blow up railway tracks as a passenger train was passing, the FSB said. The agency’s Public Relations Center reported that the planned attack was stopped before anyone was injured or any property was damaged.

According to the security service, the detainee is a Russian national born in 1993 and was acting on instructions from Ukrainian intelligence services. The FSB said he contacted an SBU representative himself via Telegram and then received guidance on how to prepare an explosion on the railway.

Investigators say the man studied the materials sent to him, bought the required components and made an explosive substance, which he kept at home. He was detained while carrying out reconnaissance on a section of railway track.

A search was later conducted at his apartment. The FSB released footage of the detention and inspection of the home. The video showed, among other things, a refrigerator containing a jar with a transparent substance that produced a white sediment. It was presumed to be one of the components of the explosive material.

The detainee said he had worked as a turner at an RZD carriage depot since September 2025. Shortly before that, he had moved to Novorossiysk from the Amur Region. According to his account, in 2026 he was looking for extra work when a handler contacted him on Telegram and offered him paid assignments.

A criminal case has been opened against the man on charges of preparing a terrorist act.
