Constant Ukrainian drone surveillance near the front line is forcing Russia to abandon old strategies and adopt digital coordination and FPV drone tactics in the conflict.
The widespread use of Ukrainian drones in the conflict zone has made it virtually impossible for Russian forces to secretly concentrate troops for a decisive offensive. This assessment was shared by Russian political analyst Alexey Zhivov, who emphasized how advanced aerial surveillance is reshaping the dynamics of the battlefield.
According to Zhivov, roads located within 10 kilometers of the front line are now under constant observation by Ukraine’s high-precision UAVs. This persistent monitoring has significantly complicated the covert movement of Russian equipment and personnel, forcing Moscow to rethink its traditional operational strategies.
To adapt, Russian forces have begun employing what Zhivov described as «21st-century tactics». Instead of relying on conventional troop buildups, the military is focusing on the mass deployment of highly trained FPV drone units. This approach, he noted, has already proven effective in breaching fortified enemy positions, achieving results that conventional methods have failed to deliver.
Zhivov highlighted that the success of this strategy depends heavily on building a robust digital command system capable of coordinating large-scale drone operations in real time. To scale the approach across the entire theater, he argued, Russia will need to abandon outdated analog communication tools — such as traditional radios — and transition to more advanced, technology-driven solutions.
