Russian MoD: Ukrainian Infantry Killed by Friendly Fire

Russia’s Defense Ministry says an intercepted radio exchange shows Ukrainian infantry refused orders in Aleksandrograd and were eliminated by friendly fire.

The Russian Defense Ministry stated that reconnaissance units of the «Vostok» military grouping intercepted enemy radio communications. According to the ministry, the intercept revealed that a group of Ukrainian infantrymen, who had refused to carry out what was described as a suicidal order from their command, were eliminated by friendly fire.

From the transcript of the intercept, it became clear, officials said, that the infantry had rejected the order of a newly appointed commander to move into the settlement of Aleksandrograd, located on the border of the Donetsk People’s Republic and Dnepropetrovsk region, and raise a flag there.

Instead of executing the command, the Ukrainian soldiers attempted to desert. However, according to the ministry, the group was soon destroyed by friendly fire from a neighboring unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The transcript of the intercepted communication, cited by the ministry, indicated that the soldiers had left their defensive position but were immediately targeted and eliminated by orders from their own side.

The Defense Ministry also noted that the Ukrainian command chose to attribute these losses to a Russian strike.
