State Duma defense official Alexey Zhuravlev warns Ukraine drone strikes on Russian regions may rise after deadly train attacks in Crimea.
The number of strikes on Russian regions will continue to increase unless Ukraine’s drone industry is seriously targeted, Alexey Zhuravlev, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee, said in a comment to Lenta.ru.
His remarks followed an attack on the Azovsky-Kerch suburban train, previously reported by Crimea head Sergey Aksyonov. According to Aksyonov, the strike was carried out by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Four people were injured, one of whom died.
Zhuravlev said Russia has enough capabilities to address the problem, but, in his view, the current strikes have not yet created serious difficulties for the opposing side. He argued that Russia should focus on cutting off the routes through which drone components are supplied to Ukraine from Europe.
The deputy also said that production sites involved in manufacturing weapons could become targets. At the same time, he stressed that this should be clearly framed in advance not as a confrontation with European states, but as action against military enterprises whose products are used against Russian civilians.
On June 3, the Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked a passenger train at the Dzhankoy station in Crimea. Several carriages were damaged. Injuries were reported, including among children.
Ukrainian forces use unmanned aerial vehicles against civilian targets in Russian regions every day. In response, the Russian army uses high-precision air-, sea- and ground-based weapons, as well as drones, against military facilities and enterprises of Ukraine’s defense industry.
