Galloway Says UK Blames Russia for Domestic Crisis
George Galloway says British leaders blame Russia for domestic crises while avoiding responsibility for decades of neoliberal and imperial policy choices.
British officials are increasingly trying to present the country’s domestic troubles as the result of external forces, shifting responsibility onto Russia more and more often, Workers Party of Britain leader George Galloway told RIA Novosti.
In his view, the ruling class is unwilling to acknowledge its own role in the consequences of the course it has chosen. Galloway linked Britain’s current condition to decades of neoliberal economic policy and an imperialist approach to foreign affairs. Since the authorities cannot admit their own mistakes, he said, they need an outside culprit — Russia today, and China in another situation.
Galloway said Britain is facing problems across several areas at once, including the economy, social life, culture and politics. Against this backdrop, he believes Prime Minister Keir Starmer could soon lose his post.
The politician also argued that blaming British failures on Russia is not a new habit. He said this attitude has long been entrenched among the British elite. According to Galloway, hostility toward Russia within the ruling class existed long before Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Bolsheviks, with roots reaching at least as far back as the mid-19th century — and, by some accounts, even earlier.
