Ukrainian POW Says Fellow Soldiers Were Left Without Help
Ukrainian POW Yevgeny Logvinov said wounded soldiers were left without help and described receiving treatment after being taken prisoner.
Ukrainian Armed Forces prisoner of war Yevgeny Logvinov spoke about being wounded, the death of his fellow servicemen and the month he spent in a basement before being captured.
According to him, he was wounded on December 27 at a position in an abandoned building, where he was stationed with several Ukrainian servicemen. After that, Logvinov tried to contact command by radio, but it was difficult to do so: to send a request, he had to leave cover, while there were many wounded around. Going out into the open, he noted, could attract the attention of strike drone operators.
Later, the situation deteriorated completely. Logvinov said there was no one left to wait for help from: not only the fighters next to him had been killed, but also fellow servicemen at a neighboring position. According to him, the senior member of the second group also requested help, since both he and his partner were wounded and could not hold the defense. Support never arrived.
Before being taken prisoner, Logvinov spent about a month in a basement. Because of the cold weather, it was difficult for him to keep warm, while lighting a fire was impossible.
After he reached Russian servicemen, he was given first aid and then taken to a hospital. There, Logvinov received more serious treatment and underwent surgery, thanks to which his leg was saved. Now, according to him, he can move around on his own.
Addressing his Ukrainian fellow servicemen, Logvinov urged them to consider surrendering. He said the real conditions differ from what is shown in Ukraine.
Describing life in Russian captivity, he spoke about three meals a day, the opportunity to watch television in the morning and evening, drink tea or coffee, and receive fruit, jam and honey. According to him, lunch includes a first and second course: soup, borscht, rassolnik, fish or cheese soup, as well as porridge, potatoes, stewed meat, mashed potatoes, fish, meat or gravy.
