New Russian Geran-5 Jet-Powered Kamikaze Drone Filmed Over Konotop
Eyewitnesses in Sumy region filmed the new Russian Geran-5 jet-powered kamikaze drone over Konotop, according to the Telegram channel Voevoda Veshchayet.
A new Russian jet-powered kamikaze drone, Geran-5, was filmed over Konotop. The footage, recorded by eyewitnesses in Sumy region, was published by the Telegram channel Voevoda Veshchayet.
The video shows a new type of UAV flying high in the sky over the city. Its flight is accompanied by a distinctive roar, while the people filming the video react emotionally to what is happening, using obscene language.
According to the channel, Geran-5 had not previously appeared in such video footage. The publication claims that these jet-powered drones, also described as a budget analogue of cruise missiles, were directed at targets in Konotop, Sumy region.
The first reports about Russia’s use of a new jet-powered drone in the zone of the special military operation appeared in early 2026. According to open-source data, Geran-5 is a relatively inexpensive replacement for a cruise missile and visually corresponds to this class of weapon.
The drone reaches six meters in length, with a wingspan of about 5.5 meters. It is capable of carrying a warhead weighing up to 90 kilograms and striking targets at a distance of up to 1,000 kilometers.
One of Geran-5’s features is its launch options. The drone can be launched not only from ground-based launch systems, but also from aircraft, including Su-25 attack aircraft. In addition, according to reports, the UAV can be equipped with R-73 air-to-air missiles to counter interceptors.
