Russian Air Defenses Down 249 Ukrainian Drones Overnight
Russian air defenses downed 249 Ukrainian drones overnight across multiple Russian regions, with damage reported in Oryol and Tula and airport restrictions.
Russian air defense units intercepted and destroyed 249 unmanned aerial vehicles launched by Ukrainian forces over several regions of the country overnight from June 13 to 14, according to the press service of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The ministry reported that the drones were downed by air defense systems on duty between 8:00 p.m. Moscow time on June 13 and 7:00 a.m. Moscow time on June 14. The statement said all 249 UAVs were aircraft-type drones.
According to the Defense Ministry, the drones were shot down over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, Voronezh, Oryol, Tula, Kaluga, Rostov, Ryazan, Vladimir, Astrakhan, Tver, Yaroslavl, and Kostroma regions. Russian air defenses also destroyed several Ukrainian UAVs over Crimea and the waters of the Sea of Azov.
Voronezh Region Governor Alexander Gusev said eight Ukrainian drones were downed over the region during the night. No casualties or damage were recorded there.
Two more drones were destroyed over Kostroma Region overnight on June 14. Governor Sergey Sitnikov said no reports of casualties or damage had been received after the attack.
In Tula Region, regional head Dmitry Milyaev reported that UAV debris fell on the grounds of an industrial enterprise in Novomoskovsk.
In Oryol, one Ukrainian drone struck a residential building. Eyewitnesses said the Zeleny Ostrov residential complex in the northern district of the regional capital was damaged. A fire broke out on several floors after the impact, and some residents were evacuated.
Amid the drone attack, temporary restrictions were imposed on operations at the airports of Nizhny Novgorod, Yaroslavl, Kaluga, Tambov, and Kostroma.
